# Use GetItDone in Claude

Connect Claude, Claude Desktop or Claude Code to your GetItDone tasks through the remote MCP server. Sign in with OAuth, no API key needed.

Connect Claude to GetItDone and it can work your task list for you — plan your day, triage what is blocked, file new tasks under the right project, and read what is actually inside a task, including its images and screen recordings. It uses the remote [GetItDone MCP server](/docs/connecting-ai-assistants), so there is nothing to install.

## What you can ask Claude

- "What can I actually start today? Skip anything that is blocked."
- "What is blocking T-123, and who is it waiting on?"
- "Watch the screen recording on T-42 and write up the bug."
- "Add a task to review the quarterly report under the Finance project, due Friday."
- "Make 'water the plants' repeat every 3 days after I finish it."

Each of these maps to a real tool — see the [full tool list](/docs/connecting-ai-assistants#tools).

## Claude and Claude Desktop

Custom connectors are available on every Claude plan (Free, Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise); Free is limited to one custom connector.

**Pro or Max (individual) plans:**

1. In Claude, open **Customize → Connectors**.
2. Choose **+**, then **Add custom connector**.
3. Enter `https://app.nowgetitdone.com/api/mcp` and choose **Add**.
4. Connect, sign in to GetItDone in the window that opens, and choose **Allow access**.

**Team or Enterprise plans:** an owner first adds the connector under **Organization settings → Connectors** (**Add → Custom → Web**, same URL). Each member then opens **Customize → Connectors**, finds GetItDone, and chooses **Connect** to sign in with their own account.

Claude only ever acts as you: it sees the workspaces you belong to, and the consent screen shows exactly which permissions it gets.

## Claude Code

Add the server, then sign in from inside Claude Code:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http getitdone https://app.nowgetitdone.com/api/mcp
```

Run `/mcp` in Claude Code, pick **getitdone**, and finish the sign-in in your browser. Prefer a key (for CI or a shared machine)? Create one under **Settings → API Keys** and add it as a header instead:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http getitdone https://app.nowgetitdone.com/api/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer gid_YOUR_API_KEY"
```

## What Claude can see

Most task-manager connectors hand an assistant a title and a status. GetItDone gives Claude what a teammate would get:

- **Full task contents** — rich-text notes and every attachment (images, videos, documents), fetched through short-lived URLs.
- **Video frames** — frames extracted server-side from screen recordings, so Claude can see what the recording shows.
- **Blocked-by chains** — which tasks block which, so "what can I start?" is answered from the real dependency graph.
- **Per-day recurrence** — Claude can tick off one day of a repeating task, including a day in the past, without touching the others.

## FAQ

### Do I need an API key to use GetItDone in Claude?

No. Claude and Claude Code sign in with OAuth: you approve access on a GetItDone consent screen and never handle a key. An API key is only needed for clients that cannot sign in, or when you prefer a header.

### Which GetItDone plans include the Claude connection?

Every plan, including Free. MCP calls count against your workspace's API-call quota, the same quota as the REST API — see [Rate limits & quotas](/docs/api#rate-limits).

### Can Claude change my tasks?

Yes, once you allow access. The consent screen lists every permission Claude asks for — including _Write tasks_ (`tasks:write`), which covers creating, updating, completing, linking and archiving tasks — and nothing is granted until you choose **Allow access**. Claude can archive a task but has no tool to delete one. If you only want read access, create a **Read only** API key and [connect Claude Code with it](#claude-code) instead: a tool whose scope the key lacks never appears to Claude.

### How do I disconnect Claude?

Open your profile in GetItDone → **Connected Apps** and revoke Claude. It can no longer get new access; an access token it already holds expires within an hour. You can also remove the connector on the Claude side.
