Quick Add in Plain Language

Type a task as one sentence, like "Submit the report tomorrow p1 #work", and GetItDone reads the due date, priority, project and repeat rule as you type.

Quick add turns one sentence into a fully set-up task. Type "Draft the launch memo tomorrow p1 #work every weekday" and you get a task named "Draft the launch memo", due tomorrow, Urgent, in the work project, repeating every weekday.

The sentence is read on your device as you type, so it is instant and costs nothing. An AI reading is there only if you ask for one.

Open quick add

  • Press Q anywhere in the app (outside a text field), or Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac), which works even while you are typing.
  • Or choose Quick add on the Daily board header, the tasks toolbar, or the empty "no tasks yet" screen.

Press Enter or choose Add task. The confirmation toast has an Undo. When you open quick add from the Daily board, the task is also added to the day you are looking at.

What you can type

Each part you type turns into a chip under the input, so you see exactly what was understood before you press Enter.

Type thisYou get
tomorrow, today, next monday, fridaya due date
in 3 days, in two weeks on mondaya due date counted from today
sep 14, 3/15, 2026-09-15a due date on that day (a date already past this year means next year)
start monday, from tomorrowa start date
due fridayforces the date to be the due date
p1 p2 p3 p4, or !1 to !4Urgent, High, Medium, Low
!urgent, !high, !medium, !lowthe same priorities by name

Examples:

  • Submit the report tomorrow → "Submit the report", due tomorrow.
  • Tax prep start monday due 2026-09-15 → starts Monday, due September 15.
  • Fix the login bug p1 → Urgent.

Repeating tasks

Type thisRepeats
every mondayweekly on Monday
every weekday / every weekendMonday to Friday / Saturday and Sunday
every monday, wednesday and fridayweekly on those days
every other tuesday, every 2 weeks on tuesdayevery two weeks on Tuesday
daily, every 3 days, every other dayon a day interval
every month, every 15th, the 1st of every monthmonthly
every 3 weeks after I finish itthree weeks after each completion

Add an ending in any order: until sep 4 or 6 times. For example, Standup every weekday until sep 4.

The chip uses the same wording as the rest of the app, such as "Every weekday" or "Every 3 days after completion".

Chips you can take back

Click a chip to undo it: the setting is removed and the words go back into the task name. So if "Recap monday standup" read "monday" as a date, one click restores the name. The crossed-out chip stays visible, and one more click brings it back.

A project that does not exist gets a warning chip, and the task is created without it. Quick add never creates a project.

If a kind of setting appears twice, the last one wins and the earlier words stay in the name: meet friday about the monday launch is due Monday and named "meet friday about the launch".

Times of day are read but not saved

Tasks have a due date but no due time. If you type a time, such as at 3pm or 15:00, quick add takes it out of the task name and shows a chip that says "3:00 PM (time not saved)", so you know it was not stored. A plain number is left alone: Call 3 suppliers stays as typed.

Ask AI to read it

For phrasing the grammar does not cover, choose Ask AI to read this. The AI reading appears next to yours, and nothing changes until you choose Create this task or Keep my version.

The AI can only fill in what your own reading left empty. Anything the chips already show stays exactly as it is, and the AI cannot link a project you did not type.

Each AI reading uses one AI action from your plan's allowance (Pricing). If the AI is unavailable, you get the app's own reading and no action is used. Typing, chips and Enter never cost anything.

Limits

  • English only.
  • Up to 500 characters.
  • Assignees (@name), status words and due times are not part of the grammar.
  • Some abbreviations are not recognised: tues, thur and thurs. Three-letter forms such as wed and sat are.
  • An impossible date, like 2026-02-31, stays in the task name as text.
