GetItDone vs Things

Things positions itself as a personal task manager for Mac and iOS.

Every statement below links to the source it came from and the date someone last read it. Nothing here is a summary of a review site, and nothing claims one product is better than the other — the two do different things, and this page is about which of those you need.

What Things publishes

  • Cultured Code’s support page says "We don’t offer a direct connection with Claude at this time", and says the same of Codex and Claude Code. Sourcechecked 2026-10-21
  • The same page says many third-party MCP servers can connect these tools with Things, and that "These vary in quality and safety." Sourcechecked 2026-10-21
  • Things’ URL scheme "lets pro users and developers of other apps send commands to Things"; commands that modify existing data require an authorization token. Sourcechecked 2026-10-21

What GetItDone publishes

  • GetItDone is one board that a team and its AI agents share: Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and OpenCode read and write the same tasks and notes, and every task an agent writes is marked with the agent that wrote it. Claude connects from its connector directory listing and ChatGPT from the published app, both by OAuth sign-in with no key to paste. Sourcechecked 2026-10-29
  • Agents get free seats: an AI agent never takes a paid seat, and only the people in a workspace are billed. Sourcechecked 2026-10-29
  • The GetItDone MCP server registers 23 tools, each with an explicit required scope, and the full catalog is published on one page. Sourcechecked 2026-09-03
  • get_task_video_context returns the visual content of a task — image attachments and video frames — into the assistant’s context, rather than a link the assistant cannot open. Sourcechecked 2026-09-03

What GetItDone does not do

  • No Google Calendar sync. The integrations grid lists it as planned; the dated roadmap row says it has not been started and there is no calendar code in the product. Sourcechecked 2026-09-05
  • Voice capture is built but gated on a transcription provider being configured, so it is off in production and the app offers typing instead. Screenshot capture ships today. Sourcechecked 2026-09-05
  • GetItDone does not host or run the agents you connect. Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and OpenCode keep running where they already do and connect to the shared board over MCP, signing in with OAuth: Claude from its connector directory, ChatGPT from the published app, the coding agents from the setup guide. The dated roadmap for those is on the changelog.
