GetItDone for Slack

Tasks get lost between the chat where they are agreed and the board where they are tracked. Mention @GetItDone in Slack and it creates, updates or completes tasks in your GetItDone workspace, then replies in the thread with what changed.

AI can make mistakes. Review the tasks it creates.

How it works

  1. 1

    Add GetItDone to Slack

Choose Add to Slack and approve the permissions. New to GetItDone? Sign in or create an account after authorizing, then pick the GetItDone workspace to connect.

  2. 2

Invite the bot to a channel

In any channel, type /invite @GetItDone. The bot only reacts to messages that mention it.

  3. 3

    Mention it with a request

Write what you need in plain language. The bot reacts with 👀 while it works, then ✅ or ❌, and replies in the thread with what changed.

Things you can ask

  • @GetItDone add a task to send the invoice to Acme, due Friday
  • @GetItDone turn this thread into tasks
  • @GetItDone mark the onboarding checklist as done
  • @GetItDone push the launch checklist to next Monday
  • @GetItDone what is on my plate today?

When your request refers to the conversation, for example "this thread", "above" or "earlier", the bot also reads up to 30 earlier messages from that thread or channel for context. It can only do that in public channels. An App Home tab in Slack shows help (mention the bot with just "help" to see it again), and you can turn on an optional daily reminder DM by enabling Slack direct message under Notification channels in your GetItDone profile, under Notifications. The reminder tells you how many tasks are incomplete and links to your dashboard.

After you install

You are sent to GetItDone to sign in, or to create an account if you are new. Pick the GetItDone workspace the Slack workspace should connect to, then invite @GetItDone to the channels where you want to use it. You can also connect Slack from the Integrations page inside the app. Full steps are in the Slack guide.

Permissions, in plain language

  • app_mentions:read Receive the messages where someone mentions @GetItDone.
  • channels:history Read earlier messages in a public channel or thread when your request refers to them.
  • chat:write Reply in the thread with what changed.
  • im:write Send the optional daily task-reminder direct message.
  • reactions:write Add the 👀, ✅ and ❌ reactions to your message.
  • users:read Look up who mentioned the bot.
  • users:read.email Match the Slack user to the GetItDone account with the same email address.

AI processing

  • Your request text, and any context messages it pulls in, are sent to a third-party large language model through OpenRouter. The model is from the Google Gemini family.
  • GetItDone is a multi-tenant service. One Slack workspace connects to exactly one GetItDone workspace.
  • The GetItDone app and its database are hosted in Canada (Toronto).
  • GetItDone does not use Slack data to train models.

Your data

  • We store the Slack workspace id and name, the bot token Slack issues, and the link to your GetItDone workspace, so the bot can reply.
  • GetItDone does not store Slack message text, except as the tasks you ask it to create. While a request waits to be processed, its text briefly sits in our job queue.
  • The stored Slack token and workspace details are deleted immediately when you disconnect Slack in GetItDone, and as soon as Slack tells us the app was uninstalled or its token revoked. Backups expire on the schedule in our Privacy Policy.

The full picture, including every sub-processor, is in our Privacy Policy.

Uninstall

Disconnect Slack from the Integrations page in GetItDone, or uninstall the app from your Slack workspace. Disconnecting asks Slack to revoke the token and deletes it, with the workspace details, from GetItDone immediately. Uninstalling from Slack revokes the token, and we delete it as soon as Slack notifies us. Tasks the bot already created stay in GetItDone.

Questions

Does the bot read every message in my workspace?
No. It acts on messages that mention @GetItDone. Only when your request refers to the conversation, for example "this thread", "above" or "earlier", does it also read up to 30 earlier messages from that thread or channel, and only in public channels.
Does it work in private channels?
You can mention it in a private channel it has been invited to, but it cannot read that channel’s history, so put the details in the mention itself.
The bot says it could not find my account.
GetItDone matches you by email address. The email on your Slack profile must match the email on your GetItDone account.
Can the AI get things wrong?
Yes. AI can make mistakes, so review the tasks it creates. The bot replies in the thread with what it changed, so you can check it and correct anything.
How do I remove it?
Disconnect Slack from the Integrations page in GetItDone, or uninstall the app from your Slack workspace. Disconnecting asks Slack to revoke the token and deletes it, with the workspace details, from GetItDone immediately. Uninstalling from Slack revokes the token, and we delete it as soon as Slack notifies us. Tasks the bot already created stay in GetItDone.
Does it cost anything?
Slack counts as one of your active integrations. The Free plan allows 2 active integrations; Pro and Team include all of them.
